Do your Marquees need to be on Grass?
We supply marquees throughout the South West – marquees in Somerset, Devon, Bristol, Bath and Dorset. We therefore have many types of events and different locations. That is half the fun – meeting new people for different events, and in different locations.
Ideally it is best to have our frame marquees on grass but we can put our marquees on hardstanding. The reason why it is better to have it on grass is that we can stake our 3 foot stakes into the ground. On particularly windy weekends we put 2 stakes through each foot. It must be noted, that there are no guy ropes around the marquee. We stake the marquees through the feet. This provides greater strength – hence, the fact our marquees can withstand winds up to 70-80mph.
Things to remember when putting our marquee on grass –
- Check the ground under the marquee where we are going to stake as to whether there are any underground services. This includes electricity cables, water pipes and soak-aways, gas pipes, thermal networks etc.
When it comes to putting our marquees on hardstanding, where we are unable to stake into the ground, we use water butts. These water butts are covered with a white pvc to keep constant with the look of our white pvc marquees. This does reduce the stability of the marquee which is assessed on a free site visit as to its exposure and the time of the year. We advise as to not keep doors, walls open during the use period.
Things to remember when putting our marquee on hardstanding -
- Think about the lie of the land where the marquee is being situated as if it is on a slope then if it rains the water will run potentially run into the marquee. This can be overcome by putting hardflooring down which lifts the carpet off the ground. Water then runs under the hardflooring and so will not cause a problem.
- We will require water to fill the water butts so please make sure we have access to a water supply/tap.
I hope this helps in understanding a bit more about the marquees we provide and where and how we can situate your marquee for your special event. Our aim is to provide you with a setting that will impress your guests and cause a stress-free and enjoyable experience for yourself.
Thanks,
John.
